And the plot/story just gets more complicated XD, not gonna lie the dragon taking the woman was unexpected lol, but already saw it coming since the ones that protects kids are mostly always in danger... Well Tree-folks are ACTUALL tree!!!

Actually the flags were there a couple of eps back so it was just a matter of time T_T

"We'll take you to the nearest village." Uhh, thanks, treefolks, but can't I just stay with you? The villages seem like a worse option, at this rate. >_>

i still cant believe Koushi's Dad (the dead fire hunter) used to kill them and get the sky fire (one of them destroyed two heavily armored train-tanks)

S3X God Nimbly • 1 year ago

Hmn...the closest show vibe-wise that The Fire Hunter reminds me of is Shin Sekai Yori from 2012....but the latter was a lot more consistent animation-wise and had some legitimately good horror moments at various points in the narrative. Fingers crossed for this one.

That being said, it just feels like this show could go off the rails completely at any moment. The fight / action scenes are....very questionably done. The stills are nice but super obvious as animation shortcuts. Gonna guess the production team is having some major issues we aren't privy to.

I'll follow it to the end, but I just keep thinking of what "might" have been with more money or a better team behind it, cause the setting is fascinating and I don't think we're getting the best possible visual interpretation of the original material.

Kira • 1 year ago

Wow, this comment needs way more likes. I didn't no how to put into words how I felt about this anime. Like, it feels special to me, but it still gives me trash vibes at the same time. However, just as you said, I'm waiting for that big moment to just pop off and everything goes to flames.

You put it into EXACTLY how I felt. Like, word for word, lmao.

I don't think i'll stick to the end as my patience is running out. I'll give it 1, maybe 2 more.

Dude same. I can stomach the bad action sequence but that stupid jpeg to end a scene feels like stabbing my eyes out. Especially in the way they're made to stand out so much like ''Hey look this anime can have this quality of art but doesn't due to no money'' - Like wtf.

'The third floor surely holds precious text even I have never read.'
Well, this professor realized quickly the kid isn't reading simply for fun & curiosity.

Some people say this is too hard to understand or is an information dump.

1. Too hard? It is, obviously. They have not given us all the clues yet. This is a mystery kind of anime. The anime wants us to be confused, and interested and come up with our own theories. We are at the stage, where they want us to inform us about things throw some lore and plot as we try to understand what it is.

2. Information dump? I do not think so. An information dump just throws huge exposition or lore without time to appreciate the story or even breath. This feels very organic.

We are learning more about the spiders, what were the Treefolk that the female lead went to try to visit them to get medicine for her aunt. Remember the reason she went to the forest in the first episode? We finally meet the treefolk.

Also we are slowly learning about hunters, fire, their society and what they know, or more like what the society wants to know.

For me this episode felt very organic or smooth on its way to show its plot. I'm actually super invested in this.

What are really fiends?
What do tree people look like that?
Why are Spiders and Divine clans fighting for?
What is the Rich guy's true goal ?
What did the professor mean, "You did not fount either"?
Why Scythes made of (Well they say the goddess) and why did the goddess made the first scythe as knowing when the fiends going to come?
If fiends are really gifts? Why give humanity such a hard task just to produce a fire that won't burn them?
Why did the male lead was confused by the smell of "asafuyo"? I forgot what it is, but for some reason, it surprise him. What is the wife plotting? She was so hostile and now she is worrying about the male lead's little sister?

I am so invested in this!

Porthya • 1 year ago

Fiends seem to be cretures evolved from the regular animals once inhabiting Earth, and so far they might've been adapting to the post-apocalyptic world humans created.

Idk why the treefolk look like that, maybe they've developed some animistic symbiosis with the trees(they seem to be feeding Touko's group some tree-sap,hmm, is she going Brandon the Broken?), what I do know is that they're the typical reference to ancestral hominid tribes predating our current species that are somehow referenced in origin myths all over the world. Tolkien and GRRM both took notes from that, to name just 2 very famous writers. I love this particular writing choice, it's fascinating to me.

The Spiders are a reference to "tsuchigumo" renegades from ancient and feudal Japanese legend and history, any and all rebellious factions the Imperial court would "demonise" in their records for going against extant order, here they're somehow made paranormal(?, if indeed there's more than regular science behind the religious lore fed to the masses and currently us) and I can't wait to see how exactly. But I expect that just like in Fire Force, Sousei no Onmyouji and many other such stories, there is some sort of misunderstanding/misconception of how it all came to happen and for the Spiders to try and overthrow the imperial "family" to "help" mankind move past this particular way of life. I don't expect them to be heroes, maybe they're anti-heroes at best, but I do know they're likely to (help) debunk the mystical aspect of this story, even moreso than Koushi.

I'm not sure what to expect from the factory president, he seems to be backing up the Spiders' agenda, but I can't be sure he isn't trying to use their rebellion as a power springboard for himself. That if he isn't indirectly connected to the divine family himself(his wife seems even more mysterious than him) and either trying to butter them up, or on some antagonistic path for some grudge.

We can assume that the world before this change could've been our current world or even something more advanced, where science walked almost in step(or tried to) with environmental and biosphere evolution. If the goddess who sacrificed(?) herself to create this special scythe/sickle was in fact some well-educated scientist who undestood enough of human culture to know the world would jump back some historical eras with the loss of fire-based technology and several related resources she might've coded some solutions in what mankind loves most, or encouraged that custom, myths/legends/stories. Unless it was the leading class (the divine clan) doing that in a move to lead the masses on. I'm getting some Joran and first season of Orphen vibes regarding them.

The teacher could very well refer either to the book Koushi did find, or the ""comet" it references. Koushi did find info on both, he's just not sharing cause the dubious president told him not to discuss his research with the teacher and others.

My research on "asafuyo" only led to some type of hibiscus which alternatively is called "Spider hibiscus", and something about god-gift/endowment. The other translations don't seem to have anything to do with this context, but the reference to Japanese hibiscus which could be used in perfumery or medicinally and feature in scents and the relation to "spiders" and mount Fuji(which prominently features in Japanese creation myths and deity-lore) should weedle somehow in all this.

My guess is the fatso old man and Hitoo-sensei are with Kumo -not HxH's s-: they seem to want to destroy everything to reach another purpose...

Robert_Sz • 1 year ago

to be honest, i feel like this ep was way above my understanding level.
seriously, i don't understand whats happened in this ep. i just saw how things going, but all the spoken words was weird. i felt like im reading a 600 years book.

Dazed • 1 year ago

Apparently the show couldn't move on without doing an information dump at this stage.

vovan1 • 1 year ago

Lore-Gatling gun at it's best.

Dazed • 1 year ago

Haha, creative.

Kira • 1 year ago

Lmao, facts

Porthya • 1 year ago

I don't particularly mind the information dump, since the visual artistic choices seem so very deliberately antiquated(this anime feels like a revivalist experiment) and might not earn the series a long run. It's like I'm reading one of the old epics where the narrator makes all sorts of parantheses to explain the origins of hero this, god that and why they have a certain reputation, lol.

Dazed • 1 year ago

Me neither. It's necessary sometimes. And preferable over just aimless action (at least to the eye & understanding of the viewer).

arra1213 • 1 year ago

its like from the new world where god knows what happens to our world lol

Porthya • 1 year ago

Oh, come on, old books are not that scary. We just need to flex our brains more, like good ol' Spielberg said.

arra1213 • 1 year ago

really appreciate animd studio still making this kind of anime instead of going w the flow w oversaturated isekai or fantasy dungeon quest anime
its like watching from the new world without those over complicated love story

Dang, Benio was a real one too :(

Lots of new info this episode but also leads to a lot more questions... Also that professor is a little sus too now, he seemed to know exactly what Koushi was looking for

I think that he was trying to point him to a specific book or note and he knew exactly where it was... Perhaps he even put it there himself a long time ago...

Sooo that red hair guy from the OP was a he not a she... damn what a fool I am.

Also damn, seems that the "show don't tell" is quite difficult for animes hun. Quite the challenge to make a complex lore within just 12 episodes. I'm usually lazy when it comes to info dump so I just go with the flow. Hope I'll understand it more as it goes. Might give it a rewatch if it's good

When he put on the protective gear, it started me itching everywhere... Have you ever worn any type of protection and couldn't scratch when everything starts itching? -Or worse start to over heat and sweat and then sweat runs into your eyes and burns, but you can't do a thing about it and must focus on the task at hand? Thankfully, I never had to deal with gas masks, because they suck too!

Vlad • 1 year ago

Of all the weirdness, the sickles bug me the most. They're decent weapons against humanoid opponents, as they can hook and go around guards, but for slaying bigger opponents? You'd want a spear! Else, a nodachi would be a decent choice, depending on the opponent.

Nhire • 1 year ago

K its time to drop. Its good to be different but animations gets worse than stuff from 2000s.
Story is not as interesting as i thought itd be, and i feel like im wasting time.

Jerome W Bison • 1 year ago

4:47 Damn!!! Rip Benio.😢
9:13 Interesting, seems they are speaking of 'Fire' as a metaphor. Much like how the Titan Prometheus, gave 'Fire' to Humans. It's not literally fire, but the knowledge to do things.

19:41 Hmm, more or less confirms the modern world has fallen and current world has risen from the ashes.

If you turn your head and squint, this series could be a prequel to the events of Fire Force.

But seriously, those scenes with the Dragon attacking stretches artistic license by a huge margin. First Season of South Park looked batter than what we witnessed, and that series is done on purpose to look like that, not because of budget constraints.

VDT • 1 year ago

animation suck at times, like most of the action scenes and at 12:25 wth was that walk 😂
Still, story seems interesting.
Hopefully animation also gets better in future.
